How the DENTOTAR® tariff works

DENTOTAR® is the standardised fee schedule promoted by the SSO, the Swiss Dental Association. Every procedure is assigned a number of tariff points; the fee is calculated by multiplying those points by the point value set by the practice. At SD, the point value is CHF 1.20.

This means the price of every treatment is calculated objectively and can be compared: the same procedure carries the same number of points anywhere in Switzerland.

An estimate before every treatment

After your examination and diagnosis you always receive a detailed written estimate describing the procedures and their cost. No treatment begins without your agreement. For larger treatment plans we also look together at alternative options at different price points.

Insurance and dental care in Switzerland

Basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG) covers dental treatment only in specific circumstances, such as serious diseases of the chewing system or accidents. Many patients hold supplementary dental insurance: on request we prepare the paperwork for your insurer.

An investment that pays for itself

Prevention costs little and is worth a great deal: an annual check-up with hygiene catches problems while they are still simple and inexpensive to fix. Neglected small cavities or gum inflammation lead to treatment that is far more demanding — financially too.
